Dan-Air Remembered video, this is the story of the UK's longest running independant airline, Dan-Air. But this is more than the history of one airline, this is the rise of an industry. The birth of the package holiday, the introduction of jet aircraft, and finally a modern airline operating in the 80's and 90's. This is just a small sample of this 67 min video which is available in DVD at the Dan-Air shop
This clip from " Are you being served The Movie " made in 1977. I was on shift that day and was given the job of going to the west park and starting up the GPU and firing up the lights and flightdeck . I sat in my old moggie minor watching it all go on when an ACS ford transit turns up and somebody shouts out something and Captain Peacock turns around to have a look. The A/C they were using to film was I'm almost sure Comet 4C G-AYWX (scrapped a year later on the 10/78). When you see the shot of the Comet taking off it was Comet 4B G-APYD a great shot though and listen to those 4 Avons roar on take off!!!
This clip is from an excellent video "Nimrod the mighty hunter". In Graham Simons ever popular book "The Spirit of Dan-Air " there is a photo of Comet 4C G-BDIV with the heading "After it's last flight on the12th of November 1979 G-BDIV is put out to grass at Lasham to await it's fate" unfortunately this clip sadly shows her fate, Graham Simons book "The Spirit of Dan-Air" is available at the Dan-Air shop.
